Slice3r is free software for 3D printing tools. It creates G-Code from 3D CAD formats. Once completed, an appropriate G-Code file for the creation of the 3D designed object or part is then transmitted to the 3D printing machine for the creation of the desired physical object. In addition, this software can also be used with Windows based machines.
In simple terms, Slice3r is used to print a pattern, whether a whole object or a single piece of paper. The software has a user interface similar to a graphics editing program such as Adobe Photoshop. To do this, the user clicks on the slice icon which is located on the desktop or in the printers inventory list and select the slicing tool from the drop down menu. After selecting the slicing tool, a new image will be displayed on the screen in the form of a.stl file. Select the shape of the object that needs slicing, then once the selection is made, the software provides you with the necessary command to the printer to start the printing process.
Once the slicing is complete, a.stl file containing the outline of the object is saved onto the computer's hard drive. This allows for you to create a new file containing a replica of the original object if desired. The Slice3r software is available for free download from its official website at the Slice3r website. There are several professional level slicing applications for use with both commercial printers and personal computers alike.
